This is a variant of Lunar Lander (arcade, 1979), but in 3D. The objective of the game seems to be destroying the other flying saucers, I think. But since I crash every ten seconds, I can’t say I’m entirely sure. I’d rate the playability of Virus somewhere between atrocious and very poor, whether using a keyboard, a controller, or a mouse! If you’re willing to compensate for this deficiency by hours of practice, good for you. For me, that’s a key factor in assessing a game.
For the record, this title was developed in 1987 for the Acorn Archimedes microcomputer (it was called Zarch, and also Lander in its demo version). Its 3D “solid surfaces” engine was quite impressive at the time, but the real question is: how many players still remember it fondly?
A remake was released in 1998 on PlayStation and PC under the name V2000.
