Roadkill is a futuristic car racing game where you eliminate your opponents by firing missiles, a precursor to Wipeout.

It’s fast, which is great, but the field of view is far too narrow for my taste, forcing you to memorise the track beforehand if you hope to make it through the corners. In fact, I get the feeling that it’s better to just smash into the wall head-on rather than waste time trying to turn; the game kindly puts your car back in the right direction. Then, shooting at the opponents—brilliant! But why do they reappear a few seconds later? It’s just disheartening.

The game works fine with two-button controllers and includes a “training” option (the same one that was missing in Nitro). That said, this type of game really needs a multiplayer mode…

The sound effects and the commentator’s guttural voice remind me of Ballistix (and Mortal Kombat of course).
