Remake of the famous Hot Rod (arcade, 1988), this is a top-down multiplayer racing game, the sort of thing you’d find in abundance on the Amiga.
What sets it apart is its post-apocalyptic Mad Max vibe and night races (which are more or less appreciated depending on the player). Graphically, I find it similar to James Bond.
There are about thirty tracks, each taking you from point A to point B (no laps). This means each race is over in two or three minutes, and you immediately jump into the next one without ever getting a chance to really learn the track. It’s a bit frustrating, especially since they’re littered with obstacles and turns offering multiple shortcuts. A “training” mode would have been welcome, or at least the option to restart the last race at will.
Between stages, you can spend your earnings to upgrade your vehicle or refuel. The game ends when you run out of fuel. If you’re playing multiplayer, I recommend downloading a trainer version and enabling unlimited fuel.
