Your mission is to recruit a band of adventurers to hunt down an evil wizard who’s causing trouble in the town of Skara Brae…
This is what I would call an old-school role-playing game. You’ll spend the first few hours poring over the manual, discovering the story, learning the subtleties between different races and character classes, and, above all, scribbling down piles of maps as you explore. To enjoy this game, you really have to put in the effort and show perseverance. This genre was meant for purists. Today, it’s true that role-playing games (and games in general) are more accessible and user-friendly. No need to slog through fifty pages of instructions—you load, you play, and if you get stuck, a quick search online will tell you which key opens which door. The player has become a spectator. It’s a bit of a shame.
That said, my group of adventurers got wiped out in ten minutes, my maps are wrong, and I’ve got the patience of a bull on speed…
I could go for another slice of progress, actually!
