You’re an assassin armed with sharp boomerangs, sent to eliminate a vile character named Midan, who is hiding in a futuristic base. End of story.

The first impression isn’t great. The hero’s animation seemed pathetic, and so did the enemies’. I thought I was dealing with an amateur game.

But despite appearances, the controls are responsive and fast. You feel agile, thanks to the ability to climb walls and cling to ceilings. The problem is, this fluidity is hampered by the need to move slowly, otherwise you get killed quickly, thanks also to the restricted field of vision.

As for the secondary weapons, I don’t find them very useful given their delay and limitations. I would’ve preferred to permanently replace my little boomerangs.

In 1994, this game was re-released under the title Assassin: Special Edition (fourth image). The new features? One less level (the first one, for some reason), a laser rifle instead of the boomerangs, and a more accessible difficulty level.

Note: I think I’ve heard some of the sound effects in Gods.
