The story of Mega Man Xtrem 2 unfolds shortly before the events of Mega Man X4 (yes, Iris makes an appearance). Suddenly, all the Reploids at a research facility stopped functioning—a catastrophe dubbed the Erasure—and their “souls”, the DNA souls, were stolen. The culprits, Berkana and Gareth, planned to use them to build an army of Maverick clones…
This time, bosses from X1, X2, and X3 make an appearance, alongside plenty of new features: different levels, remixed music, new weapons, exclusive bonuses, Zero as a fully playable character, and even a fourth game mode where you take on all the bosses as quickly as possible! The game is longer and feels significantly distinct from the Super Nintendo versions.
On the downside, the level on a scooter is particularly atrocious…
