It’s safe to say the developers didn’t exactly strain themselves with this one. Mega Man Battle Network 2 is practically a carbon copy of the first game. Not that we’re complaining—well, maybe a little…
Visually, there’s very little difference. Some locations from the first game make a reappearance, occasionally with slightly sharper textures. At least the Net has been completely redesigned. The sound effects are identical, the music feels eerily familiar, and while there are minor tweaks to the combat system, along with new chips and abilities, there’s nothing particularly groundbreaking.
Overall, the game is still enjoyable, but it brings absolutely nothing new to the table. The story is clearly phoned in, the dialogue is clichéd and pompous, and as for the “puzzles”? They’ve crossed over into downright laughable territory.
If you’re new to the series, start with the first game; otherwise, skip straight to the third.
Oh, one last tip: the next time you’re on a plane, make sure you have a chopstick, a cap, some thread, and a bottle of whisky handy—just in case a spider decides to take out the crew! Har har…
