Asteroids (1979) is an old arcade hit where you controlled a top-down ship in the middle of an asteroid field. The goal was to shoot at the big rocks to break them apart and eliminate the fragments until there was nothing left. It was followed by several sequels: Asteroids Deluxe (1981), Space Duel (1982), and Blasteroids (1987).
In 1993, Stardust brought the concept up to date. Of course, it looks prettier, with the added bonus of techno music that fits the frantic action of the game. But the real visual punch comes after the first boss, when you have to navigate a massive 3D tunnel at breakneck speed, weaving through asteroids. Breathtaking!
