A game of air hockey (or sliding table hockey). The aim is to send the puck to the other end of the table by hitting it with your mallet. Each character exhibits their own style and quirky animations. I particularly remember the crocodile, who plays brilliantly at first—at least while he’s sober. But since he downs a glass of champagne every time he scores, he usually finishes the match as drunk as a skunk!
The crowning achievement of my youth was managing to beat Biff, the champion of Shufflepuck Cafe. I spent the entire match furiously hammering the “pause” button. Not exactly my proudest moment…
It’s a shame there’s no option for two players using separate mice. Was that even technically feasible at the time?
A dubious remake came out in 2013: Shufflepuck Cantina Deluxe. The sort of mobile game designed for obsessive neurotics, where you unlock things at a glacial pace in exchange for tokens. That’s all they seem to make these days.
