You’ve succeeded in getting your revenge on the mages who enslaved you and killed your father. Well, not completely, since your little sister has been kidnapped too. Save her, before she takes your place, serving the beastly god…

The sequel to Shadow of the Beast remains an artistic showcase. The intro impresses, the backgrounds are mouthwatering, the music sweeps you away… Yes, but here’s the thing: the game itself is unplayable and frustrating. With only one life, it’s far too difficult, and even using a trainer (infinite health), you still risk getting stuck on a puzzle, making any progress impossible. Add to that the interminable loading times…
That said, there’s at least an effort to add some depth compared to the previous instalment, by incorporating dialogues and various “quest” items.

A quick word on the character’s appearance. You’re still controlling the same creature from the last episode, named Aarbron, but he’s partially regained his human form after freeing himself from the mages’ control. In return, he’s lost his powers and is now forced to fight with a weapon (a kind of mace on a chain). In Shadow of the Beast 3, he’ll have definitely rid himself of his curse (as evidenced by the fact he’s wearing trousers and a hat; the guy’s not a savage anymore!).
