This sequel to Sensible Soccer sets the bar incredibly high. Its controls still seem to be universally praised, and I won’t dwell on that. So, what’s new? A manager mode with tactical choices and a transfer market, an absolutely staggering number of teams and leagues: 1,400 clubs, 131 national teams, over 26,000 players from all corners of the world, and to top it all off, a fantastic intro track!
Several updated versions followed, fixing a few bugs along the way. The 96/97 edition is the most refined (or even the 97/98 if you can find it). They’re still played online today.
(*) Up to 64 teams can compete in the same competition, so theoretically, as many players as long as they’re willing to wait their turn.
