Ranx, also known as RanXerox, is the protagonist of an iconic 1980s Italian comic, a hallmark of the cyberpunk genre. He’s an android cobbled together from spare parts of a Xerox photocopier. The story focuses exclusively on three things: drugs, sex, and gratuitous violence.

In this brawl-heavy and risqué adventure, it seems our pal Ranx is tasked with finding a cure for an epidemic, saving the president, the world, and his young girlfriend. To do so, he needs to get to New York. That’s about all I managed to figure out. I couldn’t get past the horrendous controls or summon the patience to deal with what feels like the love child of a bad fighting game and a bad adventure game. Also, I did not like the comic.

This game can be tricky to run on an emulator. Look for this version: “Ranx (1990)(UBI Soft)(Fr)[cr PDX][a](Disk 1 of 2)”.
Joystick tip: Press “fire + up” to scroll through the inventory. Hold the same command for one or two seconds to throw an item (the throw distance depends on how long you hold the button).

If you’re into it, I’d suggest checking out LISA: The Painful (PC, 2014).
