I’m cheating a little—it’s not strictly an Amiga game but an Amiga CD32 title, and more of a port than anything else.
This is a traditional platformer, visually stunning and packed with secrets. It stars Flink, an apprentice wizard on a quest to take down the evil sorcerer who has seized control of his once-peaceful land.
Flink can learn various spells, provided he gathers the right ingredients and tosses them into his cauldron—much like Wiz ‘n’ Liz—though this time, the concept is backed by a substantial adventure…
The gameplay is engaging and well-paced, the difficulty nicely balanced; one might just criticise a slight lack of speed, some imprecision in the jumps … and most of all, the unforgivable omission of a password or save system!
Opt for the Sega Mega CD version, which is a bit prettier, smoother, and even includes an exclusive intro. On the CD32, you’ll notice minor slowdowns along with graphical and audio glitches (like the horizontal band at the top of the screen cutting through tree trunks in the example images). These issues aren’t caused by emulation but by a rushed port.
If you enjoy this, you might also like its spiritual successor: The Adventures of Lomax (PlayStation, 1996).
