The sequel to Chaos (ZX Spectrum, 1985), released in 1990 for 8-bit computers. The Amiga version doesn’t stand out in any particular way, except for an intro music that reminds me of Kult.

You control a wizard, turn by turn, in fantasy worlds. Your task is to explore them, find treasures, survive, defeat rival wizards, and reach the exit portal (before it closes). The game’s uniqueness lies in the number of available spells (45) and the great freedom it offers for experimenting with different combinations.

At the start, you only control one character, whose strengths and weaknesses you choose beforehand, like a role-playing game. However, certain spells let you summon various creatures to fight, scout, or even serve as mounts! Of course, different weapons and magical items await you, and as a good wizard, you’ll be brewing potions… But your main concern (still as a good wizard) will remain the total annihilation of anything standing in your way. Your exploits will earn you experience points, which you’ll use to learn new spells, improve your stats, and conquer the world! Start practising your evil laugh now.

Only three scenarios are available, a bit short considering the untapped potential of the Amiga. An expansion was released in 1991, bringing the total to five.
The interface looks intimidating at first, but all the buttons are labeled, and you get used to it pretty quickly. Naturally, the words “breathtaking” and “spectacular” don’t come to mind when describing Lords of Chaos. However, its ease of access and the multiple strategies you can try out give it excellent “replayability”.
And finally, if you’re comfortable with English, I’d suggest skipping the French translation.
