I set out to play Legend (by Mindscape) and accidentally stumbled upon this namesake instead. I didn’t hate it, though the lack of a manual does test your patience a bit. It’s a turn-based wargame set in a fantasy world. You begin by choosing your side—good or evil—then recruit a hero from a lengthy list of biographies (it’s a mixed bag, ranging from shifty orcs to scantily clad elf maidens … don’t get too excited, the illustrations are just poorly drawn little portraits).

From there, you’ll raise an army, manoeuvre on the strategic map, manage your territories (constructing a few buildings for minor bonuses … it’s very basic), hire “outside help” (assassins, thieves, mercenary wizards), and, of course, gold and magic play pivotal roles.

Fans of primitive RPGs and those nostalgic for simpler times might find something to enjoy here. The soundtrack will blow your mind.
