The sequel to a beloved classic released on the Commodore 64 in 1984. You play as a spy infiltrating the lair of a mad scientist (no connection to the TV series of the nearly same name).
The levels are partially randomised with each playthrough. It’s a maze of rooms connected by corridors and lifts, patrolled by robots. Your job is to search them methodically for access codes, which must then be pieced together in a specific way using your pocket computer (this is the tricky bit to grasp without a manual).
You have infinite lives but face a brutally tight time limit, which shrinks further with every setback.
The final instalment of the trilogy is titled Impossible Mission 2025: The Special Edition (Amiga, 1994). It includes a faithful port of the first game as an optional mode. I’d recommend starting there—it’s simpler—and tracking down a manual.
