The colour palette gives away the origins of the Sierra title (PC-DOS, 1991). It’s an “educational” game (though it will mostly appeal to adults) presented as a point-and-click adventure. In reality, it’s about solving a series of logic puzzles in a light-hearted and humorous atmosphere, rather than following the progression of a story (for once, an adventure game offers logical puzzles!). It’s something of an ancestor to the Professor Layton, in a way.
My only complaint is the infuriating lag between actions. On an emulator, I’d recommend configuring an Amiga 1200. On a machine that’s too “weak”, loading times will be longer, and the sound effects will be reduced to screeching beeps. A hard drive installation seems advisable (or, better yet, go for the original PC version). To bypass the copy protection, you’ll need the “decoding grid” found on Hall of Light.
The lifespan is fairly modest, but the different difficulty levels add enough variation to the puzzles to make you want to restart once or twice.
Later, there will be: The Island of Dr. Brain (PC-DOS, 1992), The Lost Mind of Dr. Brain (1995), The Time Warp of Dr. Brain (1996), among others.
