This game is inspired by a brief sequence from Fantastic Dizzy, where a pirate subjects our hero to the classic walk-the-plank ordeal before shoving him into the water.
As everyone knows, a fresh and sprightly egg like Dizzy sinks like a brick. Luckily, hundreds of bubbles rise from the seabed, serving as fragile little elevators to carry him back up.
Then again, it’s also common knowledge that any bubble submerged in water will pop the moment a cartoon character perches on it (ACME physics manual, anyone?). So, Dizzy frantically hopped from one bubble to the next, careful not to fall (because, third fun fact: an egg can’t breathe underwater—or not for long, anyway).

Here, it’s the exact same concept, stretched over five levels. Sure, it’s an easy cash grab for the publishers, but honestly, if the gameplay works and the execution holds up, where’s the harm?
As an aside, for a Dizzy game, I find the music surprisingly tolerable, though I wouldn’t have minded a bit of variety (underwater birdsong … now there’s a thought).

Oh, and I almost forgot: if you manage to reach the end (after shedding blood and tears), you’ll discover the whole point was to collect pearls to make a necklace for your girlfriend, Daisy. Didn’t gather enough? Better start over! Haha!

If you’re not bothered by the loss of colour, the Commodore 64 version seems snappier, mostly because Dizzy jumps faster and higher.

You’ll find this title in the compilation Dizzy’s Excellent Adventures.
