The original is called Penguins. A prime example of a game that has been mysteriously “reconditioned”.

Help Mama Bograt (a cousin of Quiffy) guide her two little ones to the exit of a castle, pulling levers, pushing blocks, and setting bombs. Blue baby can eat enemies; red baby, the intellectual of the family, can pick up keys and use them to open doors.

This is a well-thought-out puzzle game with no time limits, for once. In addition to the usual problems involving levers, ladders, and doors, you’ll find plenty of things to collect, like those little hearts, which serve as both health points and currency for saving your progress! Another interesting feature is the split-screen option (use “F8” and “F9”) to keep an eye on your offspring at all times.

However, the levels all look the same, and you’ll often find yourself stuck, having to restart (save on multiple slots!).

Note: The game appeared too dark on my emulator, and the “Dark palette fix” option didn’t work for me. I increased the contrast as shown here.

In the same genre, I much prefer Donkey Kong (Game Boy, 1994).
