Mega Man and about a dozen iconic robot masters hit the field for a game of football! This game, likely inspired by Battle Soccer: Field no Hasha (Super Nintendo, 1992), was released only in the US and Japan—strangely enough. You’d think football would’ve been more popular in Europe…
In any case, the rules are heavily simplified: teams of eight, no fouls, no offsides, not even a referee. I spend most of my time slide-tackling everyone, even in the penalty areas. There are various tournament types (knockout or league) as well as pre-set teams.
In championship mode, you start with eight Mega Man clones. As you win matches, defeated opponents join your bench. By the end, Mega Man’s dream team—featuring Proto Man, Enker, and the others—faces Wily’s fearsome squad.
Curiously, the game has no ending or credits, a very unusual choice for consoles (on the Amiga, it’s a different story!). Hackers later discovered that an ending scene does exist but a programming error prevents it from triggering. You know where to click to watch it.
There is also an arcade game similar to it: Soccer Brawl (1992).
