Mega Man: Dr. Wily’s Revenge, the first of its name on Game Boy, features a paint-by-numbers plot where our blue hero (or rather green, in this case) faces off against eight resurrected robot masters from the first two NES games, courtesy of Wily, plus Enker, the so-called “Mega Man Hunter”. Rush is absent, and Mega Man lacks both the slide and the ability to charge his weapon. For a change, the final showdown takes place in space, and naturally, the mad scientist is defeated.

Proportionally, Mega Man takes up more screen real estate, making him trickier to handle—particularly in boss fights.

The game is shorter than most, as only the first four robot masters get dedicated levels. The remaining four are unceremoniously lumped into a “teleporter room” that drops you straight into their arenas.

Suggested order:
Fire Man > Cut Man > Elec Man > Ice Man > Flash Man > Quick Man > Bubble Man > Heat Man
