This one reminds me a bit of Harry Potter for its simple, black-and-white characters.
Fitz is a bastard. His grandfather, the king, plans to turn him into a political assassin. Gifted telepathically like the rest of his family—and secretly able to communicate with animals—Fitz spends his life immersed in court intrigue. Envied and despised by parts of the court, his loyalty is constantly tested, leaving him perpetually torn between duty, friendship, love, and his own ambitions.
A very easy-to-read series packed with action: the good guys are very good, the bad guys are really, really bad, and the main character is maddeningly naïve!
