A clone of Boulder Dash with an IT theme, full of printed circuit boards, floppy disks, and other hi-tech gadgets. Its gameplay system has been enhanced compared to Emerald Mine and includes new elements like one-way passages and remote-controlled bombs. Also note the effect of gravity in certain levels.
I don’t like this game for several reasons:
- Visually, it’s ugly. I’m not asking for third-millennium technical effects, but even the choice of colours irritates my eyes.
- The one and only music track, although pleasant, is played on a loop continuously, and there are no other sound effects (unless I missed the option). It will drive you crazy after just a few minutes.
- Too many puzzles, not enough action for my taste (hello, Eat Mine?).
Nevertheless, Supaplex became very popular thanks to its level editors, especially in its DOS (PC) version. A huge community formed around this game, and even today, you can find thousands of levels created by players.
If Supaplex still doesn’t work on WinUAE (I haven’t tried it since 2010), try the WinFellow emulator, configuring it as indicated here: The Supaplex Homepage. You’ll also find the PC-DOS version and instructions on how to make it work (in English).
