An amateur remake of the famous artillery game Scorched Earth (PC, 1991) and a genre classic on the Amiga (alongside Tanx and Worms). Several versions followed over six years, incorporating new weapons, among other things.
How does it work? Each player controls their tank in turn, carefully selecting their weapon, the angle of fire, the power, and boom! You can only fire once per turn. Generally, the first player to hit their target, after some adjustments, gains a decisive advantage. It’s a whole different story when there are three or four players!
Several options can be customised, such as gravity, wind strength, and terrain type. You have a credit to buy weapons between levels (over 70!), some of which are quite amusing. There are also a bunch of shields with varied effects (often vulnerable to a specific type of weapon).
The static nature of this kind of game may not appeal to everyone; the tank movements are limited, and the overall pace is fairly slow (like the animations).
My rating is debatable (maybe more than usual) because I only played it solo. Naturally, it wasn’t exactly thrilling.
The author created a remake in 2001, called Pocket Tanks.
