In the United States, this game was released a year later and under a different name: HoverForce.

John Carpenter would surely approve of the storyline. In 2038, the US government, overwhelmed by rampant crime, decides to enlist bounty hunters. Better yet! These are recruited from prisons, in exchange for a pardon.

You are one of these ex-cons entrusted with a futuristic flying car, armed with a machine gun. Pacify the streets of Los Vegas by eliminating dangerous drug lords and earn your freedom.

It’s a very basic 3D shooter but surprisingly fast (probably because the field of view only takes up a third of the screen). The dashboard (a bit cluttered) shows you the positions of the wanted criminals on two radar screens. Your primary target, marked by arrows at the bottom left, will only become vulnerable to your shots once you’ve taken down their henchmen and collected a certain amount of drug shipments, represented by the counter below the score indicator.

If you need to repair or upgrade your weapons, head to the local shop (press “F5” to “track” it, just like the boss).

The handling is excellent with a mouse; however, the lack of variety becomes noticeable quickly, and having to restart the level from the beginning after every lost life is quite annoying.

Note that the grimacing faces of the drug lords you see at the bottom of the screen belong to members of the game’s development team!
