You manage a railway company in America or Europe during the 19th century, in the golden age of rail. On one side, you have the entire construction aspect, with drawing railway routes on the map, choosing locomotives and transported goods; on the other side, financial management. Reading the manual seems essential, as the simulation is so complex.
Your objective is to build a railway empire in 100 years, without being swallowed up by your competitors or dismembered by your creditors. Railroad Tycoon spawned numerous sequels that are more polished and, crucially, far more user-friendly, with 3D graphics and tutorials. It’s hard to imagine anyone feeling much attachment to the Amiga version nowadays.
