The sequel to Mortville Manor, originally released on Atari ST, then on Amiga and PC (the latter version being notably less successful).
The same concept is retained: a police investigation set in the 1950s; the same main character: Jérôme Lange, who, during a boat trip, is diverted to Maupiti Island (thanks to a cyclone). There, he faces an unresolved kidnapping case…
It’s the kind of game that’s impossible to finish without a walkthrough, but you can’t help but dive back into it, if only for the atmosphere. You’re given plenty of freedom to move and act, set against postcard-perfect backdrops where the realism and attention to detail invite you to think and act like a real detective. The interface is clear and intuitive, the music immersive, and the synthesized voices … still downright creepy! Even though this isn’t my type of game, I have to admit that the creators are real artists.
Notwithstanding … it triggers murderous impulses in me!
Press “Space” to skip the credits. Be careful, the “Alt” key starts the game in “demo” mode (and I couldn’t figure out how to stop it). So, even if it’s a long wait and you’re feeling impatient, avoid pressing the “Alt + tab” combination during loading!
