It’s the Amiga port of the Atari adaptation of a relatively obscure arcade game from 1990, itself influenced by RoadBlasters (arcade, 1987), a hybrid between a racing game and a shooter.
The difference in Hydra is that you pilot a speedboat instead of a car. You must transport various valuable cargoes to different regions of the world, shooting everything that crosses your river and avoiding running out of fuel. Between missions, you can spend the money you’ve earned at the local arms dealer.
The repetitive action and lack of fluidity in the animation quickly wore down my interest. Be warned, the game seems to crash on emulator when a second floppy disk drive is activated.
