For context, Dune originated as a science fiction novel written by Frank Herbert in the 1960s and has been adapted for the big screen multiple times.
The story: At the start of the 12th century AG (After Guild, roughly 10,000 years into our future), the most valuable substance in the universe is spice, found in abundance only on a desert planet called Arrakis (or Dune). You play as Paul Atreides, tasked with overseeing your family’s spice harvesting operation for the Emperor. Your mission begins with ensuring the ever-demanding Emperor gets his fill of spice, then shifts to forging alliances with the native Fremen and rallying them to drive out the cruel Harkonnens, the sworn enemies of House Atreides.
In terms of style, Dune blends adventure and management, featuring extensive dialogues, a well-crafted storyline, and a significant strategic element. The visuals and music, inspired by David Lynch’s film, are excellent. It’s a fairly short game but undeniably beautiful and engrossing.
