When I was a little brat, I used to have fun placing countries and capitals on a map with this little program. A voice would sound after each of my actions:
“No!”
“That’s wrong!”
After a while, the voice refused to talk to me anymore, and a drum sound would mark each of my mistakes. I ended every game with a very impressive score … in the negative.
Today, it’s clear that I remain hopeless at geography, but this isn’t due to any shortcomings in the software, which is quite well made.
For the more daring, there’s a game mode where you must rank countries by area, population, or GDP per capita (the data, of course, dates back to the late ’80s).
The only criticism I could offer is that the entire North American continent is missing. I could already picture myself, confusing California with Florida, spending a quarter of an hour searching for Washington…
Thanks to English Amiga Board for helping me rediscover this game.
