Six months after Dr. Wily's last attempt to conquer the world, the world is finally at peace. One day, Mega Man is attacked by a strange robot called Terra. Mega Man is helpless against him and he is seriously damaged by the newcomer. A few hours later, a group of alien robots named Stardroids are wreaking havoc on Earth. Dr. Light repairs Mega Man and gives him a new weapon: the Mega Arm and Tango, a robotic cat. The Stardroids, who are named after each planet of the solar system, are beaten one after another by the blue bomber. He destroys also Dark Moon, a robot who looks like the Rock Monster and Terra, the chief of the Stardroids. Finally, the mastermind behind this evil scheme is... Dr. Wily himself. Mega Man fights the doctor into his space fortress, but there is more: Dr. Wily awakes Sunstar, a weapon robot from an ancient civilization in the solar system. Dr. Wily orders Sunstar to destroy Mega Man, but the robot shoots at the mad scientist claiming to destroy all inferior life forms. Then Mega Man beats Sunstar and tries to help him by taking him to Dr. Light lab. Sunstar ask Mega Man why did he do that. He replies that they must help each other. Sunstar understands, but says to Mega Man that he must escape because, his nova weapon will explode, destroying all the fortress. Our hero gets back to earth just before the explosion. Finally, Mega Man meets Dr. Wily, who survived, and starts running to capture him and bring him to justice...
